Lee Vining Canyon Considerations:

  • When the ice is good, it can be somewhat busy in Lee Vining Canyon on the weekends. If you are able to come mid-week you will find few other climbers.
  • Access to Lee Vining Canyon is through Southern California Edison Property. We as climbers need to respect their property and obey the signs that are displayed. They have allowed us for thirty years to walk through their facilities but request that we do not park or drive in the lot
  • With growing numbers of climbers over the last few years sanitation is becoming a issue. It is a help if you equip yourself to carry any waste out of the canyon and depose of it properly.
  • There is a stokes rescue litter at the base of the Chouinard Falls. If you use it, please ensure its return or contact us and let us know where the litter was taken.
  • We recommend that you bring snowshoes or skis to the trailhead in case conditions warrant.
