EUROPEAN ALPS- Summer 2008

We had an excellent trip to the Alps this summer. Once again our timing was perfect. We arrived just after a very stormy May and June and we left just before the weather got intermittently stormy in August. Nearly every day of climbing was under blue skies for a full month!

Howie Schwartz, UIAGM mountain guide and SMG owner, went across the pond for some exciting and successful trips with a lot of great folks. We started with climbing in the Chamonix-Mont Blanc area with Bill Brougher. Then we did an 8-day Matterhorn program with 5 climbers (Scott, Bill, Jean-Marc, Roget, and Jim) through IMG, then we did a classic traverse of the Weissmies with Sam and Irene Janis. We also had an opportunity to do a 3 day scouting mission for a 100 mile mountain running trip aroud the entire Mont Blanc Massif (see separate trip report). Finally, we got a chance to do some great vacation alpine and sport climbing with some guide friends in the Chamonix area. Overall, an exceptional trip.
