Eastern Sierra Ice Report – March 25, 2019

Hey Ice climbers – I was out last Wednesday and over the weekend climbing ice in Lee Vining Canyon. It is fantastic and the long days, mild temps, filled in approach and fat hero ice has been really fun.

Ice in June Lake has been seeing too much sun to be climbable so lee vining has been seeing most if the climber traffic but crowds have been minimal.

We were the only people on main wall yesterday and there have only been a handful of parties most days.

Zippos is now melted and the ice on the left edges of the main wall is thinning (fisher king and spiral are thinner than they were earlier. this season) but everything seems as fat or fatter.

it snowed a bit on Saturday and more snow on the way this week with a good hard freeze for the ice at night so if it keeps that up this spring it will be a record long Ice season.

Looking forward to a few more weeks of great ice climbing.

See you out there
