Thank you for some great trips in 2014.  As we move forward into 2015 we have put together some proposals with some changes that will make these programs even better.  We have created this custom trip proposal specifically for you, to your specifications. Please let us know if you have any other questions or would like to make any changes. Our next step will be to come up with dates and the number of programs.

Custom Trip Proposal Honda 3 day Mammoth to Tuolumne 2015

Honda san, We have made some changes to the program this year.  Please take a close look at information and the itinerary.  The new updated and improved program includes:

  1. Two SMG guides. We believe this is the way to go for the best guest experience.
  2. All tips are included in the price, so no need to provide extra money.
  3. The guides meet with the guests the day prior to get all the gear for the mules and finish any last minute details.
  4. We now have the trip finishing at the Tuolumne Store so we can have a beer and celebrate the trip before they head onto the Valley.

Arrival: I would also recommend that the guests arrive one day prior to the start of the program to acclimate and have some time to enjoy Mammoth.  There are great hikes, and you can take the Mammoth Gondola to the summit for acclimation.


We will most likely experience sunny, benign weather (with perhaps scattered afternoon showers). However, there is always the chance of experiencing dramatically changing mountain weather. It is important to be prepared for all kinds of weather, including sun, wind, rain or lightning. The Sierra Nevada in summer is especially prone to afternoon thunderstorms. Your guides will inform you of what to do in the case of a thunderstorm. EQUIPMENT LIST: Equipment to bring for the Mules (10kg max per person): This gear should be in a separate soft duffel bag and compressed as much as possible. No suitcases. No breakables.

  • Sleeping pad
  • Sleeping Bag (+30 degree) lightweight and compressible
  • Lightweight Camp shoes or sandals (with backs)
  • One Extra Change of Cloths
  • Synthetic insulating layer, upper- i.e. Patagonia Puffball Jacket
  • Small Camp Towel (Synthetic Quick Drying)
  • Toilet Paper (Your guide will digging a toilet hole at each camp location) We will be packing out all trash and toilet paper.
  • Tooth Brush and Paste
  • Light reading material

  • Small lightweight day pack (25 liters)
  • Water bottles (2 liters of capacity)
  • Trekking Poles pr. (optional)
  • Lightweight rain shell, jacket and pants
  • Light Gloves- Leather palm thin, dexterous
  • Warm hat
  • Neck gaiter (optional)
  • Sun hat
  • Light weight hiking boots or heavy duty trail shoes
  • Socks 1 liner pair and 2 pair synthetic/wool (no cotton)
  • Lightweight long underwear top & bottom- no cotton
  • Mid-weight insulating micro-fleece shirt
  • Nylon shorts
  • Sunglasses- suitable for high mountain use
  • Sunscreen- SPF 30+
  • Mosquito Repellent
  • Lip balm- SPF 30+
  • Personal medications (if any)
  • Headlamp- Petzl e-lite, Tikka Plus, or similar LED style- with fresh batteries

3-DAY Mammoth to Tuolumne: 43 Kilometers with 1428m of gain.

TRIP ITINERARY: 3-day Mammoth to Tuolumne
DAY 0 Meet at the Mammoth Mountain Inn in the afternoon to check in, review the itinerary, check and gather gear for mules, and finalize packing and other logistics.
DAY 1 7:30am at the Mammoth Mountain inn ready to go. We will load into the van and head to the Agnew Meadows trailhead (2563m)to begin the trek on the High Trail. We will hike on the Pacific Crest Trail throughout the day to Badger Lakes (2918m) where we will camp for the night.     9.5 KM 538 m gain
DAY 2 With an early start we will catch the sunrise at Thousand Island lake and have some time for photos.  Then we will hike over Island Pass and then on to the incomparable Donoghue Pass (3371m). We will make our way to camp near the footbridge in Lyell Canyon (2950m). 17.5 KM 800m gain
DAY 3 On the last day of the trek we make our way down Lyell Canyon to the Tuolumne Meadows (2620m) store for a celebration beer. The van will meet us here with our gear from the mules and that will be the end of the trip. 16 KM 70 m gain
