Learn to Lead Women’s Clinic

This course is designed for those who are wanting to lead traditional rock climbs. The objective of this program is to introduce climbers to the techniques required for leading single and multi-pitch traditional rock routes while advancing technical and movement skills. We would like participants to have previous experience in rock climbing in the outdoors, experience cleaning gear, and now would like to get on the sharp end.

Learn to Lead Women's Clinic

Course Highlights Include:

  • Introduction to selecting appropriate climbing rack for single pitch climbs and multi-pitch
  • Anchor building techniques and rope management in a single pitch and multi-pitch environment 
  • Cleaning anchors and setting up for rappel for single to multipitch setting.
  • Risk management 
  • What to bring?

Day One:

  • Meeting instructor and introductions
  • Group will go to selected crag for the day
  • Introduction to traditional anchors for leaders 
  • Practical applications of both passive and active protection
  • Practical application of different lead belays
  • Introduction to rescue techniques


Day Two:

  • Introduction to multi-directional anchors
  • More on anchors and rope management 
  • Guide demo of single pitch to multipitch setting for practice to demonstrate rope management and leader traditional anchors
  • Optional rescue skills


Day Three:

  • Cleaning anchors and setting up for rappelling
  • Pre-rigging rappel in a multipitch setting
  • Mock leading in a single pitch setting 
  • Optional falling on gear

Day Four:

  • Discussion on where to take break on route and falling
  • Mock leading
  • Student -led climb in single pitch environment
