Not to be confused with the Red Rock Rendezvous, the mass gathering of climbers and gear manufacturers which happened to be going on the same March weekend, Alex Stepanek and I went ready to get up early and beat the crowds onto some of the most classic routes in Red Rock. In 2 days we logged about 20 pitches of rock climbing, none of which were short of excellent. Great days with a great partner and looking forward to more with Alex soon! The photos help tell the story…
- Early pick up at the hotel.
- Morning light at the trailhead.
- Approaching. Black Velvet Canyon.
- Nearing the base of Frogland (III, 5.8+).
- Killer 5.7 corner.
- Just past the crux of Frogland.
- Topping out!
- Johnny Vegas (5.7)
- Solar Slab. Totally classic.
- Descent.
- Solar Slab Gully descent. Irritating yet so beautiful.
Special thanks to Mark and Rob of Jackson Hole Mountain Guides for letting us be their guests for these days. They are our good friends and the best locally based guide service in the area!
