Mount Conness
Mt. Conness is the jewel of Eastern Yosemite National Park, which has a very different alpine nature than the domelands of adjacent Tuolumne Meadows.
This climb serves up dramatic exposure at a moderate climbing grade. “This is one of the best routes in the Sierra backcountry,” according to climber, guidebook author, and SMG guide, Peter Croft.

Pure alpine rock climbing nirvana.
Mt. Conness (12,590 ft.)
North Ridge (III, 5.6)
Mt. Conness is the jewel of Eastern Yosemite National Park, which has a very different alpine nature than the domelands of adjacent Tuolumne Meadows. The sweeping North ridge of the mountain makes up the Park’s natural Eastern boundary and is pure alpine rock climbing nirvana. Enjoy knife-edge ridges, technical rappels, high exposure, and expansive 360 degree summit views of Yosemite Valley, the Sixty Lakes Basin, the Ritter Range, and the Sawtooths. Both the North and West ridges are extraordinary climbs, but the North ridge provides a more dramatic and alpine ambience, with the sheer Northeast face and Conness Glacier looming far below. The high, easy trail access from Saddlebag Lake makes this climb reasonable in a long day as a peak traverse. A grand tour of the Eastern Yosemite alpine that is not to be missed!
